Week 1 Football Playoff Projections Breakdown

First Four Out: Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Tennessee
 
Week 1 did not see too much chaos outside of the ACC. The only teams to drop out of our projected playoff bracket were Florida State and Clemson. With FSU losing twice and Clemson getting crushed by Georgia, Miami has moved into the ACC’s automatic spot.

It was definitely an exciting championship weekend. It seemed like every couple of hours the playoff picture got turned on its head. The bowl eligibility of teams went late into the night with both California and Colorado State needing wins to clinch a bowl berth. The Golden Bears crushed UCLA to reach a bowl in style. Meanwhile, Colorado State lost at Hawaii in a thrilling upset. That means there are 79 bowl eligible teams for 82 spots. No team in the committee’s top ten lost this weekend, so there are not a lot of big changes in the bowl projections this week. Quite a few teams got their sixth win to clinch bowl eligibility, but there are still many who are looking for their sixth win in their final game this weekend. While all the attention goes to the power conferences when it comes to realignment, the Sun Belt has position itself nicely to be among the best of the non-power conferences. Washington picked up another huge win this week, running all over USC. The Huskies next face Utah and Oregon State, a couple more top 25 teams. However, for now, UW will have to wait to get into our projected playoffs. If they remain perfect, Washington will find themselves in the top four sooner or later.
