Ohio State survived a tough test from Penn State. Marvin Harrison Jr. was the big difference for the Buckeyes in the 20-12 victory. That should have been OSU’s toughest test until their regular season finale at Michigan on November 25th.
Oklahoma’s thrilling victory over Texas has shaken up the playoff picture. The Sooners are eyeing a spot in the top four after knocking off the Longhorns 34-40. That was by far the toughest game on Oklahoma’s schedule. However, for now, it is Florida State who has moved up into the projected field of four. FSU made easy work of Virginia Tech on Saturday and stay at home to face Syracuse this ...
With the top ten remaining unchanged, there were not many changes in the New Year’s Six Bowl projections. One team playing their way into the mix this week was Ole Miss. The Rebels scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to edge LSU 55-49.
The four-team playoff has not changed. Ohio State nabbed a huge win over Notre Dame to remain in our top four. It is very crowded at the top right now, but Michigan, Georgia and Texas are the other three teams projected to reach the playoffs this season. Florida State, USC, Washington and Penn State are ready to move in should anybody slip up.
Texas picked up a huge win over Alabama and has catapulted themselves into the projected playoffs. Florida State is right in the mix now too following their week 1 win over LSU, but for now they are on the outside looking in with Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State getting the nod. Even with just two weeks in the books, the Group of Five winner, who is projected to play in the Fiesta Bowl, is wide open. The ...
Even with some upsets in championship week, the playoffs are all but set. USC played their way out on Friday night and that moves in Ohio State to join Georgia, TCU and Michigan in the playoffs. TCU will have to sweat it out a little bit after losing to Kansas State, but a one-loss TCU squad should get in over a two-loss Alabama team.
Despite all of the drama at the top of the bowls, the bottom is quite interesting too. There are more bowls than bowl eligible teams and, by our count, we should head to the APR for one team with a 5-7 record. That is assuming Buffalo beats Akron on December 2nd to secure their sixth win of the season. New Mexico State is also 5-6 and has been declared bowl eligible by the NCAA. Rice would get into a bowl ...
Nearly all of the top teams survived scares this week. It was Tennessee that did not survive, falling to South Carolina. That is very good news for USC, who beat UCLA in a 48-45 thriller. The Trojans now basically control their own playoff destiny. If they can beat Notre Dame next week and win the Pac-12 Championship game after that, they will be in the playoffs. TCU survived a tough road test at Texas, winning 17-10. That clinches their spot in the Big 12 title game and keeps their hopes alive for a berth in the playoffs. They have another road game next at Baylor, but this is a Bears team that just lost at home 31-3 against Kansas State. We now believe in the Horned Frogs and think they will beat Baylor, Iowa State and, potentially, Kansas State in the conference ...
Week 10 certainly shook up the playoff picture. Even if we assume Georgia and the winner of Ohio State / Michigan go undefeated, things will get very interesting after that. One loss teams like Tennessee and Ohio State or Michigan will, presumably, not play in their conference championship game. But will those more tested teams get in over an undefeated TCU? What about a potential one-loss Pac-12 champion? ...
