Round 1 | |||||
1 | Jacksonville | Teddy Bridgewater | QB | Louisville
If Jacksonville is drafting here, it is time to give up on Blaine Gabbert. It may be time to give up on Gabbert anyway. Teddy Bridgewater is the top signal caller in this class at the moment. After throwing 27 touchdown passes as a sophomore, the 6-3 junior is poised for a big 2013 campaign at Louisville.
2 | Oakland | David Fales | QB | San Jose State
Who? David Fales is a big, talented quarterback who has first round talent. There are a handful of other quarterbacks like Johnny Manziel, Aaron Murray and Tajh Boyd who could just as easily end up near the top of the pecking order of quarterbacks. But for now Fales is that guy and the Raiders get to reach for a quarterback since they need to find somebody to build their team around.
3 | Buffalo | Jadeveon Clowney | DE | South Carolina
Jadeveon Clowney is the best player in this class. If Jacksonville and Oakland were not selecting first and second, Clowney would certainly be selected. As it is, the Bills finally get to address their huge needs on defense after spending the 2013 draft improving the offense.
4 | Arizona | Taylor Lewan | OT | Michigan
Had Taylor Lewan entered the 2013 NFL Draft, he would have likely been right up there with Eric Fisher and Luke Joeckel. Arizona seems relatively content with their tackle situation, but that could very well not be the case by the time the 2014 NFL Draft rolls around.
5 | NY Jets | Anthony Barr | LB | UCLA
The Jets would love to find a way to get Jadeveon Clowney on their roster. They need somebody opposite of Quinton Coples. For now, the best pass rusher available is Anthony Barr. The 6-4 senior should have a huge year for a pretty good UCLA team in 2013.
6 | Tennessee | Jake Matthews | OT | Texas A&M
Like Taylor Lewan, Jake Matthews would have been right in the mix with Eric Fisher and Luke Joeckel had he opted to enter the 2013 draft. The Titans do not have a huge need at tackle, but that may not be the case in April.
7 | Cleveland | Johnny Manziel | QB | Texas A&M
Johnny Manziel is not my favorite quarterback prospect in this class, but he is not as undersized as many think and he could be a very good quarterback at the next level. That may not warrant the seventh overall pick in the draft and Manziel still has a lot to prove at Texas A&M.
8 | St. Louis | Cyrus Kouandjio | OT | Alabama
Alabama's left tackle will always be on the NFL radar. Cyrus Kouandjio has been, and will be, a great collegiate tackle, but there are some questions about how well he will project to the NFL. If all goes well, he could be considered the top tackle on the board. Even if the questions remain, Kouandjio is a top ten talent.
9 | Kansas City | Marqise Lee | WR | USC
USC receivers have not done particularly well in the NFL lately, but Marqise Lee may put an end to that. Following a great 2012 campaign, Lee should have another productive collegiate season in 2013. If so, he has the talent to be the first wideout off of the board.
10 | Minnesota | Loucheiz Purifoy | CB | Florida
Loucheiz Purifoy may be the cream of the crop in this class when it comes to cornerbacks, although Bradley Roby will have something to say about that. Purifoy is 6-1 and has great speed to go along with it. That combination should make him the first corner taken.
11 | Carolina | Bradley Roby | CB | Ohio State
This is developing into a pretty deep class of cornerbacks, but Bradley Roby will likely end up as one of the highest on the board. Carolina has needs in the secondary at the moment and they should be able to pick up a very good corner at this point in the draft.
12 | Miami | Stephon Tuitt | DE | Notre Dame
Miami did not get any defensive linemen to plug into their 3-4 scheme during the 2013 NFL Draft. They will need to keep adding players who fit their system over the years and Stephon Tuitt should be a very good option.
13 | Tampa Bay | Austin Seferian-Jenkins | TE | Washington
Austin Seferian-Jenkins is the top tight end in this class. At 6-6 and 266 pounds, he is a beast and a potential difference maker for the Tampa Bay offense. If Josh Freeman is still under center, he will look much better with Seferian-Jenkins providing a huge target.
14 | Detroit | Brandon Coleman | WR | Rutgers
Detroit will have bigger needs, but putting Brandon Coleman opposite of Calvin Johnson would have Matthew Stafford drooling and defensive coordinators sweating. Coleman is 6-6 and has been drawing many comparisons to Johnson himself.
15 | Cincinnati | Louis Nix | DT | Notre Dame
Louis Nix could end up being one of the top picks in this draft. He can dominate the line of scrimmage and has proven it over and over again at Notre Dame. This may not be the best fit for Cincinnati, but Nix is too talented to pass up at this point in the draft.
16 | Indianapolis | C.J. Mosley | LB | Alabama
The Colts' defense needs upgrading just about everywhere. In this case they should go ahead and take the top defensive player on their board. That very well could be Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley. The inside linebacker could emerge as a defensive leader for years to come.
17 | Philadelphia | Aaron Murray | QB | Georgia
Assuming Matt Barkley is not the answer, Philadelphia would be looking for a quarterback in the 2014 NFL Draft. Clemson's Tajh Boyd has top 20 potential and would be a much better fit for Chip Kelly's offense, but Aaron Murray could prove to be the better quarterback in the long run.
18 | Chicago | Ifo Ekpre-Olomu | CB | Oregon
The Bears will be in the market for cornerbacks at the end of the 2013 campaign. If they need to go after one in the draft, nabbing Ifo Ekpre-Olomu would be a very good idea. But after Chicago's 2013 draft, they will probably do something else that makes little sense.
19 | Dallas | Daniel McCullers | DT | Tennessee
Speaking of teams who made questionable moves in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Cowboys are up next. After not filling their need for a defensive tackle, the Cowboys can reach a bit for the 6-8, 360 pound Daniel McCullers.
20 | St. Louis (from WAS) | Will Sutton | DT | Arizona State
Pending on who the Rams resign, defensive tackle could be a big need in 2014. Will Sutton will need to add some girth at some point, but he has the potential to be one of the top defensive tackles in this class.
21 | San Diego | Sammy Watkins | WR | Clemson
If Danario Alexander does not come back and Keenan Allen, a third round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, does not pan out, the Chargers will be eyeing a wide receiver early in 2014. Sammy Watkins is an amazing playmaker and is certainly a first round talent.
22 | NY Giants | Kyle Van Noy | LB | BYU
Kyle Van Noy had an amazing junior season at BYU, totaling 13.0 sacks. If he continues that production, the rush linebacker may not fall all the way to the Giants. This may not be a huge need for the Giants, but it will be a nice value pick.
23 | New Orleans | Aaron Lynch | DE | South Florida
Aaron Lynch had a superb freshman campaign at Notre Dame before heading off to South Florida. He still has a lot to prove at the collegiate level, but Lynch has all of the tools to be a great all-around end. He just needs to be productive for another year and stay healthy.
24 | Pittsburgh | Adrian Hubbard | LB | Alabama
Adrian Hubbard does not solve Pittsburgh's inside linebacker problem, but he will provide the Steelers with another talented linebacker that can get to the quarterback. Hubbard thought about going to the NFL after the 2013 season, but it should prove to be a wise decision to wait for 2014.
25 | Baltimore | Ryan Shazier | LB | Ohio State
Ohio State quietly went 12-0 last season and Ryan Shazier was a big part of the success on defense. With the Buckeyes bowl eligible and sporting a team that will be in the mix for a national title, everybody will start paying attention to how good Shazier can be.
26 | Atlanta | Jackson Jeffcoat | DE | Texas
The Longhorns defense had a lot of problems last year. But it was not Jackson Jeffcoat's fault. Jeffcoat missed the last six games of the season with an injury and that did not help Texas at all. Jeffcoat is a very good pass rusher and should work his way into the first round as long as he can stay healthy.
27 | Houston | Antonio Richardson | OT | Tennessee
For the time being there is a pretty big gap between Taylor Lewan, Jake Matthews and Cyrus Kouandjio and the rest of the offensive tackles. However the 6-6, 332 pound Antonio Richardson has the potential to move up and join the big three atop the offensive tackle pecking order.
28 | Green Bay | Morgan Breslin | LB | USC
A linebacker may not be Green Bay's biggest need during the 2014 NFL Draft, but the Packers are smart. This is a very, very deep group of linebackers and there is great value to be had at the position. Some linebackers will have to slip down into the late first round and that is where the Packers will be waiting.
29 | Seattle | Kareem Martin | DE | North Carolina
By the 2014 NFL Draft, Seattle will be looking for some long term solutions to their pass rushing needs. Kareem Martin is the best available at this point. The 6-6 senior has some things to work on during his last year with the Tar Heels, but he is full of potential.
30 | New England | Jonathan Brown | LB | Illinois
Most teams selecting this late in the draft do not have many holes to fill. That gives the Patriots the luxury of finding good value in the first round. Jonathan Brown is another one of those talented outside linebackers in this class that could easily be available in the late first round.
31 | Denver | Trent Murphy | LB | Stanford
The Stanford defense is stacked with talent and Trent Murphy may just be the best of the bunch. Denver passed on a top notch pass rusher in the first round last year, opting for defensive tackle Sylvester Williams instead, so now they need to get one.
32 | San Francisco | Anthony Johnson | DT | LSU
San Francisco does not have too many needs at the moment, so they too can attempt to grab some talent that has slipped down the board. Depth on the defensive front line is never a bad thing and Anthony Johnson could be worthy of a first round selection by draft day.
Round 2 | |||||
33 | Jacksonville | David Yankey | OT | Stanford
After drafting Teddy Bridgewater, Jacksonville should boost their offensive line. David Yankey is a great prospect and will team up nicely with 2013 first round pick Luke Joeckel.
34 | Oakland | Timmy Jernigan | DT | Florida State
The Raiders have so many holes to fill that they should just go ahead and take the best player on the board. For now, that is Florida State defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan.
35 | Buffalo | Aaron Colvin | CB | Oklahoma
Aaron Colvin is a big cornerback and has the potential to be a safe first round pick if he has another good year in Norman.
36 | Arizona | Jordan Matthews | WR | Vanderbilt
Arizona did a good job picking up Ryan Swope late in the 2013 draft, but Jordan Matthews could be a true number one receiver in the NFL.
37 | NY Jets | Marcus Roberson | CB | Florida
Marcus Roberson is another one of this bigger cornerbacks that are all the rage. The junior Gator still has a lot to work on, but his measurables will keep him on the NFL radar.
38 | Tennessee | Scott Crichton | DE | Oregon State
Scott Crichton has not garnered as much attention as he deserves playing at Oregon State. With another solid season for the Beavers, that will change.
39 | Cleveland | Ha Ha Clinton-Dix | S | Alabama
With a name like Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Cleveland cannot lose with this pick. Clinton-Dix will be a be big part of an Alabama defense that will again dominate the collegiate ranks.
40 | St. Louis | Ka'Deem Carey | RB | Arizona
The Rams go back to the state of Arizona to add a dynamic playmaker to their roster.
41 | Kansas City | Kony Ealy | DE | Missouri
The Chiefs will still be looking for more quality depth on their team in 2014 and adding a big pass rushing threat like Kony Ealy is never a bad plan.
42 | Minnesota | Henry Anderson | DE | Stanford
Minnesota may not be able to keep both Jared Allen and Brian Robison after this season, so picking up a new pass rusher will be a must.
43 | Carolina | Khalil Mack | LB | Buffalo
Khalil Mack may fly under the radar for a while and will need a good showing during his senior year to garner more attention, but he has all tools to be a solid linebacker in the NFL.
44 | Miami | Anthony Chickillo | DE | Miami (FL)
The Dolphins will probably want to add another pass rushing threat and they do not need to look far from home.
45 | Tampa Bay | Tajh Boyd | QB | Clemson
If Josh Freeman struggles and is not back on Tampa Bay for the 2014 season, they may be looking a replacement. Mike Glennon, a third round pick in 2013, is an option, but adding some competition with Tajh Boyd is not a bad idea.
46 | Detroit | Jason Verrett | CB | TCU
Even if Darius Slay turns out to be a good selection, the Lions always need some help in the secondary and the deep crop of corners provides them with a quality player in round two.
47 | Cincinnati | Brian Blechen | S | Utah
At some point Cincinnati needs to find a long term answer to their safety problems, but adding more options will do for now.
48 | Indianapolis | Justin Gilbert | CB | Oklahoma State
Indianapolis keeps adding some much needed help to their defense with the addition of Justin Gilbert.
49 | Philadelphia | Cyril Richardson | G | Baylor
The Eagles may want to keep adding players to fit their defensive scheme at some point, but protecting their first round quarterback pick with one of the best guards in this class would be a smart move.
50 | Chicago | Dominique Easley | DT | Florida
Dominique Easley may be the best defensive tackle on the board at this point in the draft and right now the Bears need to find somebody to plug into the middle.
51 | Dallas | Seantrel Henderson | OT | Miami (FL)
The Cowboys can add another 6-8 prospect to their squad, this time beefing up the offensive line.
52 | Washington | De'Anthony Thomas | RB | Oregon
Like the 2013 NFL Draft, the Redskins do not have a first round pick in 2014. They need to make the most of their second round selection.
53 | San Diego | Trey DePriest | LB | Alabama
Trey DePriest will provide the Chargers with some more options at linebacker.
54 | NY Giants | Quandre Diggs | CB | Texas
Unless the Giants acquire a corner or two prior to the 2014 draft, finding some help in the secondary will be on the top of their to-do list.
55 | New Orleans | George Uko | DT | USC
The Saints can keep adding new bodies to their defensive front with tackle George Uko.
56 | Pittsburgh | Shayne Skov | LB | Stanford
Shayne Skov should be one of the best inside linebackers in this class. That fills a huge need for the Steelers.
57 | Baltimore | Karlos Williams | S | Florida State
There are still some very good safeties available in this draft and Karlos Williams may be the best of the bunch.
58 | Atlanta | Ty Zimmerman | S | Kansas State
Atlanta can continue adding young talent to their secondary with the addition of Ty Zimmerman.
59 | Houston | Derek Carr | QB | Fresno State
Matt Schaub is not getting any younger and at some point Houston will want to use a pick or two in order to try and get lucky on a quarterback. This is a solid quarterback class, so there is value to be had in the second round. And Houston likes their Carr's.
60 | Green Bay | Ed Reynolds | S | Stanford
When all is said and done, Ed Reynolds may be the best safety in this class. If that is the case the Packers will not be able to get him here.
61 | Seattle | Zack Martin | OT | Notre Dame
Some see Zack Martin as a first round selection. He has been an absolute rock at left tackle for the Irish and could very well be considered among the top tackles in this class.
62 | New England | Cody Hoffman | WR | BYU
At 6-4 Cody Hoffman is a pretty big receiver. He has had an amazingly productive career at BYU too.
63 | Denver | Kyle Fuller | CB | Virginia Tech
The Virginia Tech secondary was inconsistent during the 2012 campaign, but Kyle Fuller should help out if he is not bothered with more nagging injuries this season.
64 | San Francisco | Andrew Jackson | LB | Western Kentucky
Andrew Jackson is a tackling machine and has had an absolutely amazingly productive career at Western Kentucky.
