Aaron Murray, Junior, Quarterback, Georgia
Overview:
Unfortunately for Aaron Murray, Georgia’s poised signal caller, there is a ceiling for his draft stock. A quarterback lacking ideal size for a pocket passer (Murray is listed at 6’1”) has little chance of being a high draft pick, no matter his on-field success. Triumphs in the NFL from players like Drew Brees prove it is hardly an issue for the right people. Yet general managers and scouts find it hard to draft a player they see as limited, no matter the intangibles. And Murray has those QB intangibles. He is smart in the pocket with good accuracy, despite some struggles with consistency this past season. Murray does not run much but doesn’t look to do so either. He is comfortable throwing from behind his line and has enough arm strength to make most pro passes…assuming he can get his passes off.
Final Projection:
A great year from Murray and Georgia can help his stock obviously. Already with two statistically solid years under his belt, Aaron Murray has a chance to take another step up at the collegiate level. However, as stated, there is a ceiling to how high he can climb on draft boards. Sitting as a mid-round pick heading into his junior year, he might be able to climb up to the second round or so but it seems unlikely any team would take Murray with their first selection given his physical limitations.
