Well, what did everybody think? Did it live up to the hype? I personally do not think so. I mean I know they were two top 10 teams but it didn’t appear as though South Carolina had the offensive fire power to stick with a team of Arkansas’ caliber.

Oh, you thought I was talking about a different game? Sorry for misleading you. Okay, let us cover the Game of the Century of the Week in quick bullets.

  • Alabama’s offense was more impressive than LSU’s, which says…something
  • Alabama’s defense was equally as good as LSU’s
  • There is a third dimension to a football game that people tend to overlook
  • Nick Saban actually got into a Les Miles game against Les Miles and it backfired
  • Marquis Maze made the two biggest mistakes of the game if Jarrett Lee doesn’t count
  • Jarrett Lee doesn’t count
  • Even with the low score, plethora of penalties, blown coverages and turnovers, this was a fascinating game to watch

Saturday, November 12

18th ranked Auburn vs. 23rd ranked Georgia

Florida vs. 14th ranked South Carolina

With the SEC West shaped up until the last week of the season when LSU faces Arkansas, our attention turns to the SEC East. South Carolina lost last week, dropping them from their tie with Georgia. The Bulldogs now control their destiny. If they win out, they make the SEC title game. Neither team will have an easy go of things this Saturday with Georgia facing a highly ranked Auburn team and South Carolina battling a hungry Florida team looking to become bowl eligible.

This would easily qualify as Georgia’s best win of the year if they come through. As pointed out in previous weeks, the Bulldogs did something right this offseason, managing to have a full slate of SEC games without having to face LSU, Alabama or Arkansas at all this year. If they manage to beat Auburn, only a home game against Kentucky will stand in their way of the championship game.

Other notable matchups:

Saturday, November 12

Ole Miss vs. Louisiana Tech

Just kidding. Houston Nutt won’t even be watching this game.

Games of no particular note or significance whatsoever:

Saturday, November 12

Vanderbilt vs. Kentucky

8th ranked Arkansas vs. Tennessee

1st ranked LSU vs. Western Kentucky

5th ranked Alabama vs. Mississippi State

A couple remaining thoughts on the rest of these games: Vanderbilt and Kentucky both still have a shot at bowl eligibility as crazy as that sounds. Thank goodness for out-of-conference opponents. Arkansas will try to avoid looking way ahead to that matchup with LSU. LSU will try to avoid some sort of epic “week after” game. Alabama will try to avoid feeling sorry for themselves and making voodoo dolls of their placekicker.
