Omar Holness, Sophomore, M, North Carolina
Overview:
Omar Holness, who hails from Kingston, Jamaica, has played for his country’s national team at many levels over the years. When he arrived at North Carolina in 2013, he was ranked No. 29 in Top Drawer Soccer’s Top 100 Freshman list. His seven points (2G, 3A) for the Tarheels ranked third on the team and earned him ACC All-Freshman Team and Soccer America All-Freshman Team honors.
Holness is a calm and cool midfielder who excels at maintaining possession of the ball. He keeps things simple in the passing game and is willing to support the backline in times of need. Holness is also an asset on set pieces, as he can deliver quality balls and even make long throw-ins.
Final Projection:
Even though he’s an underclassman, Holness has the potential to be a Generation Adidas player given his skill. If he jumps to the MLS, Holness could be a top ten pick or a late first-round pick at worst.
