Yale Football Hosts Army
It was a game conceived of three years ago by the Yale Athletic Director, to mark the 100th anniversary of Yale Bowl. It would pit traditional rivals, Yale and Army. It would mark their first meeting since 1996.Yale leads the series 21-16-8, but had its last win in 1955 when it was a national football power.
Five of the top ten crowds in Yale Bowl history have been for the Yale-Army game and the largest crowd ever, 80,000, watched a Yale win in 1923. Yale has not played an FBS team since 1998 when they took on Connecticut.
This year the Elis enter the game at 1-0, coming off of a come from behind win against Lehigh. Army is 1-2, losing narrowly on the road to Wake Forest, 24-21 last Saturday. Yale has a balanced attack, led by star runner Tyler Varga and quarterback, Morgan Roberts. Army has, as usual, a rushing attack. It features Larry Dixon who has amassed 326 yards. The Cadets throw the ball infrequently, but effectively. Look for a high scoring game, with the Cadets coming up on top, 38-20.
