Devereaux Peters, Senior, Forward, Notre Dame
Overview:
Devereaux Peters’ career has been a battle of perseverance overcoming two ACL injuries in February and November 2008. Now finally healthy for an extended period of time, Peters has been able to take advantage of a nearly unstoppable 77 inch wingspan that has allowed her to become one of Women’s College Basketball’s most disruptive defenders.
In 2010-11, Notre Dame had an epic run to the National Championship game knocking off Tennessee, UCONN, and nearly beat Texas A&M. Peters was the Big East Defensive Player of the year in her first full season being healthy for the Irish. Peters was dominant from the floor shooting a 59.3 percent field goal percentage, and also led the team in rebounding, and blocked shots.
Final Projection:
The key to Peters’ senior season will be how she and her teammates handle having the target on their back in the Big East after knocking off mighty UCONN. If Peters can avoid any let down and continue her lockdown defensive ways, with perhaps another Big East Defensive Player of the Year award, then look for her draft status to continually rise as her season goes along even with overcoming multiple ACL injuries.
