Tyra White, Senior, Guard, Texas A&M
Overview:
Tyra White came to College Station with very high expectations as a McDonald’s All-American. But immediately she faced adversity in the form of an ACL injury during her freshman year in the 2007-08 season opener. After redshirting that year and playing in a limited role in 2008-2009, White worked her way back into the starting lineup and earned the team’s Most Improved Player award. She improved her scoring to 10.2 points per game and was pinpoint from the floor at 52.7 percent during the 2009-10 season.
In 2010-2011, White played a significant role in the first ever national championship for the Lady Aggies. In tandem with Sydney Colson, White hit almost 40 percent from beyond the three point arc and was a force defensively with 42 steals and 17 blocked shots. Tyra also bumped her scoring average up to 13.8 points per game as well to go along with making the Big 12 All Tournament team.
Final Projection:
This season for the Aggies will rely a great deal on Tyra White. Thanks to the graduation of Sydney Colson and Danielle Adams, teams will be keying on White heavily but if past performance is any indicator, White should be up to the challenge and complete her journey from the ACL injury to WNBA Draft selection next April.
