Ashleigh Fontenette, Senior, Guard, Texas
Overview:
Ashleigh Fontenette came out of the blocks off the bench as a freshman in 2008-09, but she worked her way into the starting lineup by February 1st, and finished as the second leading freshman scorer in the Big 12 (8.3) ppg. She was in the top three in rebounding, assists and steals for a freshman as well. In 2009-10, Fontenette took her ball handling up a notch by leading or co-leading the team in assists 15 times. She also was named all Big 12 Honorable Mention. Also, she recorded the first triple double by a Texas player since 2000 on December 8, against Texas Pan-American. This performance greatly illustrates her versatility on the basketball court.
In 2010-11 Ashleigh, broke double figures in scoring at 11.7 points per game, led the Longhorns in steals with 64 on the season and had almost a 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio in handling the basketball very diligently for Texas. She also started all 33 games for the Lady Longhorns.
Final Projection:
Look for Fontenette to team with Sophomore Chassidy Fussell to form of the best backcourts in the Big 12 conference. Fontenette’s assist to turnover ratio is excellent and should only improve in her senior year. That reliability of distributing the basketball should make her an intriguing prospect for WNBA clubs next April.
