On the Offensive
The Indiana Hoosiers have struggled mightily the last few years as they have been cellar dwellers in the Big Ten. Last season, although they suffered many disappointments, was actually a decent season. However the Hoosiers felt that it was time for a coaching change so they made a move. They decided to hire former Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson. Coach Wilson is an offensive genius who will take a brand new scheme, philosophy and style to Indiana. The Hoosiers feel that Coach Wilson will take them to the next level. Of course this will not happen quickly or easily. In fact this year looks to be a very rough year for Indiana. They lost their starting quarterback, their leading rusher and one of their most talented wide receivers. These are key positions that are difficult to fill. To make matters worse the Big Ten added a perennial power house in Nebraska this offseason. The Big Ten is as strong as ever, and Indiana may be as weak as ever. However bleak the near future may be, the distant future looks much brighter. Coach Wilson can turn the Hoosiers around. His style seems to work, as Oklahoma has had one of the most prolific offenses in the last few seasons. He has won the assistant coach of the year Broyals Award, which is a major award to win. He joins a pretty exclusive list of great names such as, Kirby Smart, Alabama defensive coordinator and Gene Chizik.
One thing that Indiana will focus on is recruiting in their region. Coach Wilson believes that high school football in Indiana has reached an all-time high in terms of coaching and talent. This could provide a great boast to helping them recruit the talent needed to compete in the Big Ten. Coach Wilson is also very energetic, which he believes will trickle down to the players and result in better play on the field. He also plans on recruiting smart, which means landing players who are willing to work hard, believe they can win and understand that if they work hard they will win.
Coach Wilson believes that this team is good enough to compete this year, but is very confident in the future. He is focusing on getting his players to learn the scheme so that they can play fast. He knows that you can recruit speed and train speed, but you need to be smart and know what you are doing in order to play fast. Indiana will have a new look this season and it will hopefully be for the better. Coach Wilson wants his offense to play smart and fast and, given time with recruiting, they will certainly pick up on his scheme and have success. He has a plan for turning the Hoosiers around and has begun to execute it since day one. They may not be a power house or be competing for a Rose Bowl Bid yet, but in a few years he is hoping to turn Indiana into a great team, starting with having an explosive offense. It is all about hard work, being enthusiastic, and being smart. These principles will carry the Hoosiers to victory lane.
