Rutgers Football 2011
Losing teammate Eric Legrand was a tremendous heartbreak for the team. Not only the fact that they lost him but the way they did. He suffered a severe spinal cord injury and is slowly coming out of paralysis. The Scarlet Knights took the loss of their well-respected teammate very hard as it was an emotional and trying time. Reports show that he is doing well slowly moving his arms, so hopefully his fellow teammates can go and play their hearts out for him.
The Scarlet Knights will have some loaded pieces on offense. With quarterback Chas Dodd replacing the recently transferred Tom Savage the offense should be high scoring. Dodd, who threw for over 300 yards against Uconn last year, will be better prepared for the system that former Pitt offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti has in place; which will use Dodd in several formations. The offensive unit also has highly sought after running-back Savon Huggins and receiving threat Mohamed Sanu.
The downside to the Scarlet Knights will be their defense. With the loss of four starters in the secondary, Greg Schiano will have to find more creative ways to get to the quarterback.
Although last year’s record was a disappointing 4-8, Rutgers’ schedule favors them to get a bowl selection if they execute their strengths and do well to mask their weaknesses. They have four tune-up games, then it is Pitt and Navy at home. Lastly, to finish it out the season Chas Dodd and the Scarlett Knights visit the team he earned his starting role against…Uconn.
