Fort Worth Region 2014 Baseball World Series Breakdown
#7 TCU, Dallas Baptist, Sam Houston State, Siena
The TCU Horned Frogs have stormed back into the NCAA Tournament in 2014 as Big 12 Champions. TCU comes into the NCAA Tournament having won 27 of its last 30 games. They also were awarded their first national seed in program history as the number seven overall seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Pitching is the key ingredient for TCU as they are very deep in their starting rotation. It starts with junior Preston Morrison who has been a workhorse with five complete games and has just a paltry 1.25 earned run average. Tyler Alexander and Brandon Finnegan have been lights out as well as they are a combined 17-6 overall during the 2014 season. Offensively, TCU is a steady group that averages just over five runs per game. Garrett Crain paces things with a .341 batting average. Cody Jones provides the speed with 25 stolen bases. Boomer White leads the way with clutch hits and 41 runs batted in.
Dallas Baptist, Sam Houston State, and Siena stand in the way of the Horned Frogs on their quest to host a first-ever Super Regional at Lupton Stadium. Dallas Baptist has lost to TCU twice already this season, but they won the 2011 Fort Worth Regional so they won’t be intimidated by Lupton Stadium. Sam Houston State has a win over TCU in Fort Worth earlier this season back on February 28 by a score of 9-4. Senior catcher Anthony Azar leads a talented Sam Houston State offense with a .376 batting average, nine home runs and 47 runs batted in on the season. Siena, is back in the tournament for the first time since 1999. Vincent Citron and Justin Esquerra are going to have to carry the Saints offensively in this regional.
