The Miami Hurricanes are back in the NCAA Tournament for the 42nd consecutive season under veteran head coach Jim Morris. The Hurricanes were in the national seed conversation for a while during the season. The pitching has done a nice job all season long led by junior Chris Diaz, who is 9-0 with a 2.31 earned run average. Freshman Brian Garcia has come up big for the Hurricanes as well. Texas Tech returns to the postseason for the first time since 2004. The Red Raiders are a very battle tested team that has some huge wins over Indiana, Rice and TCU this season. They are potent offensively led by sophomore utility player Eric GutiƩrrez and his twelve home runs. Tyler Nelsons leads the team in batting with a .412 average. Columbia is the Ivy League champion and they played Miami during the 2013 regular season, losing both contests. The Lions played in the 2013 Fullerton Regional where they went 1-2, beating New Mexico and losing to Fullerton and Arizona State. Senior pitcher David Speer is 8-2 on the season with a 1.86 earned run average. He is one of those pitchers that can turn a regional upside down with a win early on. Bethune-Cookman has split two games with host Miami this season. The Wildcats have two starting pitchers in Montana Durapau and Keith Zuniga with six complete games that can cause favored teams fits in this Coral Gables Regional.
