First Eight Out: Cal State Fullerton, Mercer, Western Carolina, Illinois, Evansville, Duke, UC Santa Barbara, New Mexico
All games have been played and now it’s time to see who the selection committee picks to be in the field. The regional hosts have been announced and they are as follows: Florida State, Virginia, Miami, Louisville, Oklahoma State, TCU, Indiana, Oregon State, Florida, Mississippi LSU, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Cal Poly, Rice and Louisiana-Lafayette. Most other teams are either safely in or out, but there are a handful of teams who sit squarely on the bubble. Stanford, Clemson, UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton and Mercer are the five teams with the best resumes on the bubble. Three of those teams will get in, and I’m going with Clemson, Stanford and UC Irvine. Cal State Fullerton and Mercer still have a shot, but their resumes are not as good as any of the other three.
