Aaric Murray NBA Draft Profile

Aaric Murray NBA Draft Profile

Aaric Murray, Junior, Center, Texas Southern

Overview:

Aaric Murray spurned offers from some major programs, and even some other Big Five schools in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to attend La Salle. With high expectations in hand, the 6-10, 250 pound center lived up to them during his freshman campaign. He ended that season averaging 12.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks. His 70 blocks in a single season ranked second behind Lionel Simmons’ 77 during the 1987-1988 season.

Murray came a step closer to breaking that record the following year, tallying a total of 73 blocks. On top of his stellar shot blocking, Murray also led the team with 15.2 points and 7.7 rebounds during his sophomore season.

Final Projection:

Murray is the new breed of center that can do more than just score in the post and block shots on the defensive end of the floor. On the offensive side of the floor, Murray can step out beyond the three-point arc and knock down some shots. He may not take too many three-pointers in the NBA, but consistently knocking down some 18 to 20 foot jumpers is still a nice feature. He is also a decent passer who is used to being double teamed in the paint and finding an open teammate on the perimeter.
