Kareem Martin, Senior, Defensive End, North Carolina
Overview:
At 6'6" and 260 pounds, Kareem Martin has always possessed the body to be an NFL defensive end. However, prior to his senior year, he seemed to have limited upside. He was a good run defender with solid technique and the ability to take down ball carriers. His hard-working demeanor and good frame gave him some durability and power edges as well. But thanks to an unbelievable senior year, Martin is now flying up draft boards. Through late November, Martin has already doubled his career sack total from eight before the season began to 17 now. He has already eclipsed his season high in tackles for loss and has demolished his tackle numbers from his previous seasons.
Final Projection:
After his junior year, Kareem Martin was thought of as a good defensive end with mid-round projections. But now, considering the step he's taken as a senior, the ceiling has been pushed that much higher. Scouts were worried about his ability to get to the quarterback, which he has answered in spades. With the biggest knock against him now tempered, Martin is approaching first round consideration. Of course, his inability to really fit into a 3-4 defensive scheme limits his flexibility, which teams will take into consideration come draft day.
