Augustus Gilchrist, Senior, Forward, University of South Florida
Overview:
Gilchrist, who has impressive size for a power forward, is a legitimate inside/outside threat. Not only can he produce around the basket, Gilchrist can also make plays facing the basket which will be utilized in the pros. His midrange jumper is more than reliable and he can also create his shot off the dribble fairly easily.
Although USF is not at the top of the Big East, Gilchrist still turns heads. During his junior year, Gilchrist tied for twelfth in offensive rebounds with 2.5 in Big East games and was fourteenth in rebounds with 6.2. He led the Bulls in scoring at 13.4 ppg and was scoring with dominance at times. He is also a very strong defensive player to go with his offense with 22 blocks during his junior season.
Final Projection:
Gilchrist is a typical grinder. He goes out every game and produces. He can wear out a defense with his array of scoring abilities and be a very strong player defensively with the potential to shut down an opponent’s big man on any given night. Consistency has been somewhat of issue especially with the length of an NBA season. By the time he is asked to be a difference maker, he will be ready and will be a handful for teams to deal with on a nightly basis.
