Ryan Shazier, Junior, Linebacker, Ohio State
Overview:
For an undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes team in 2012, sophomore linebacker Ryan Shazier did it all. He finished first on the team in total tackles, solo tackles, tackles for loss and was second in sacks. He was one of the best tacklers in all of the Big Ten a season ago. Now, entering his junior year, on a team vying for a National Championship berth, Shazier is looking to cement himself as one of the best backers in the country. With good sideline to sideline speed, Ryan Shazier is a do-it-all linebacker, one of the few left with how specialized positions are becoming nowadays.
Final Projection:
While most top prospects from the linebacker position are known for rushing the quarterback, Ryan Shazier does so much more. He has the ability to accumulate sacks for sure. But, in just two years played thus far, he has also shown many more skills. Forcing fumbles, breaking up passes and making tackles all over the field put the junior Buckeye in a league separate from some of his positional peers. While the NFL often falls in love with pass rush specialists, someone with a more all-around game still has a place in the league and a chance to be a first round selection if he declares.
