Kerry Murphy, Junior, Defensive Tackle, Alabama
Overview:
Kerry Murphy has had a tough go of it at Alabama. The 6-4, 319 pound defensive tackle is a superb football player, but has not been able to put it all together and have a solid season. After not qualifying to play for the Tide in 2008, Murphy saw limited action as a freshman in 2009. On the year he played in just six games and tallied three tackles. Murphy failed to grab hold of the starting nose guard job as a sophomore and was again used sparingly off the bench, totaling just nine tackles on the year.
Murphy could still unseat the more experienced interior lineman as an upperclassman, but due to physical reasons he was not involved in Alabama’s spring practice and his status for the fall is uncertain.
Final Projection:
Murphy has the size and the tenacity to be a superb tackle or nose guard in the NFL. However, he must have some collegiate production prior to even thinking about the next level. Murphy will eat up a ton of space and has more than enough strength to battle against anybody in the Southeastern Conference.
