Landry Jones, Senior, Quarterback, Oklahoma
Overview:
Landry Jones had a very tough job in 2009. As a redshirt freshman he had to come in and replace the injured Sam Bradord. The results were mixed, but Jones did a very good job all things considered. On the year he completed over 58 percent of his passes and threw for 3,198 yards. His 14 interceptions were a problem, but he did complete 26 touchdown passes.
With the better part of a season under his belt, Jones had a much more efficient 2010 campaign. His completion percentage shot up to 65.6 and he threw for an impressive 4,718 yards. The interception numbers were still a little high, but he threw many more passes in 2010 and did cut his pick total down to 12.
Final Projection:
At 6-4 and 219 pounds, Jones has the look of an NFL quarterback. He has plenty of experience in an offensive scheme that prepares quarterbacks for the NFL. The unfair comparisons to Bradford will go on for a long time, but Bradford’s success may mean teams feel like they know what they are getting from Jones. Whenever he opts to head to the NFL, Jones should be one of the top quarterbacks available and a likely top 15 selection.
