State of Oklahoma has Two Softball Champions
OKLAHOMA CITY – The state of Oklahoma didn’t have one but two national softball champions in 2013.
Besides the Oklahoma Sooners winning the NCAA Women’s College World Series in a two-game sweep of Tennessee, the University of Central Oklahoma Lady Broncos captured the NCAA Division II national title with a 5-2 win over Kutztown May 27 to cap a 9-0 run through the national championship. It was the school’s first women’s national title in any sport.
UCO outscored the opposition 61-16 in winning its first Division II softball championship and the UCO coaching staff, Head Coach Genny Stidham and Assistant Cody White, have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association II National Coaching Staff of the Year. The OU coaching staff got the honor for Division One.
UCO finished the year 51-11 and were 23-3 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Association to win league honors. The overall number of wins is a school record.
