C.J. Fiedorowicz NFL Draft Profile

C.J. Fiedorowicz, Senior, Tight End, Iowa

Overview:

Fiedorowicz is a lot to handle on the end of the offensive line.  The 6’7” tight end could rush the passer from the other side.  He is a huge target up the middle and has the ability to make a tough catch.  He has played in every game for the Hawkeyes since 2010, but his breakout season came last year when he caught 45 passes for 433 yards.  His production has improved every year since his freshman year, which is a good sign for scouts.

Though his yardage has increased over the years, his scoring opportunities have not taken a significant jump.  He only had one touchdown last year.  Only four times in his entire career at Iowa has he broken the plane.  Fiedorowicz figures to be a big part of the offense this year as a senior, especially since one of their outside receivers, Keenan Davis, has moved on.  He will become a security blanket for a new starting quarterback under center for Kirk Ferentz’s team.

Final Projection:

Fiedorowicz is in the mold of a Rob Gronkowski: long and athletic.  There is a new breed of tight end in the NFL and Fiedorowicz is the prototype.  Bigger targets create issues for nickel corners and slower linebackers.  Fiedorowicz has even come out and said that he and newly drafted Eagle Zach Ertz would create a dominating two tight end set in Philadelphia.  No matter where he goes he would add a dimension to an offense.  He just has to prove he can make big plays in 2013.  He will most likely be one of the first two tight ends called in the 2014 draft.
