Ben McLemore, Freshman, Guard, Kansas
Overview:
It was thought that Ben McLemore may be able to work his way into the regular rotation during the 2012-2013 campaign after sitting out while cleaning up some academic issues the previous year. He did a tad more than just work his way into the rotation. The 6-5 guard started from day one and led the Jayhawks in scoring with 16.7 points per game during the regular season. He knocked down about two three-pointers per game and has great range.
McLemore is also a tough enough defender and can use his quickness on the defensive end of the floor. His size and strength make him a good rebounder and he can even drive and dish. But it is McLemore’s ability to score from everywhere on the floor that has NBA scouts excited.
Final Projection:
McLemore should be one of the first players chosen in the 2013 NBA Draft. Without a clear #1 player on the board this year, he could be the top selection. He has the size, strength and shooting range to be a great shooting guard in the NBA for a long, long time. A lot of players can score, but McLemore’s ability to hit the glass, pass and play defense makes him the most attractive scorer on the board.
