Marcus Smart, Sophomore, Point Guard, Oklahoma State
Overview:
Marcus Smart took college basketball by storm last season as a freshman when he seemed to make every early season highlight reel before anyone really knew who he was. That is no longer the case. In his first year, he was playing 33 minutes and scoring 15 points per game. He raked in awards including Big 12 Player of the Year and the Wayman Tisdale Award, which goes to the top freshman in the country.
As a sophomore, he is playing less minutes while being more productive. He has improved his shooting by over six percentage points, and he now averages 17.8 points per game. He does not shoot many three-pointers, but he has improved his range as well. His 39 point outburst against a quality opponent in Memphis is proof that he shines when the light is brightest. He is the unquestioned star on the Cowboys basketball team.
Final Projection:
If you can score points, you can find yourself on an NBA roster. Marcus Smart is also a really sound basketball player. He is going to make scouts very happy. He is quick and can slash to the bucket. He is a super athlete. He can sky for rebounds and make acrobatic plays. He leaves it all on the floor. Coaches love hustle. The fact that he came back to school and got better only helps him during the draft process. Smart is a sure-fire top 10 pick.
