B.B. Bates, Senior, Outfield, UCLA
Throws: Right, Bats: Left
Overview:
Bates saw time in left field and right field in 2012. The Bruins clean-up hitter slammed 14 home runs with three multiple-homer games. Needing only 17 hits on the year to reach 200 for her career, Bates’ .360 batting average in 2012 was her best (.335 career.) Runs, doubles, on-base, walks, total bases-nearly every category saw career high marks in 2012, with a three year low in strikeouts.
Final Projection:
Always looking for lefties, the pros will be interested in Bates’ all-around game. Her numbers have improved every year, and in the Pac-12, that’s hard to accomplish. Look for that trend to continue, but what drafting teams might remember to this point is the Bruins early departure from the regionals, with Bates going 1 for 7 at the plate.
