Overview:
LSU’s All-Everything pitcher led the Tigers to the College World Series in 2012 with 13 shutouts (5th nationally) and a 1.13 ERA. Her win/loss record is a bit deceiving, as the Tigers scored a total of 10 runs in her 13 losses (against 20 wins). Fico’s .183 opponent batting average was accomplished in the tough SEC where high averages abound, and hitters struck out 221times in 230 innings pitched overall.
Final Projection:
Fico’s 23 hit batsmen in 2012 may catch the eye of the pros, but not necessarily in a negative way. Owning the inside is important at every level, and that stat proves Fico is not afraid to pitch in tight. Fico will be looking not only to return to the WCWS, but to erase the memories of her 0-2 record and eight earned run performance there.
