Overview:
Del Ponte is a true third baseman, which could help or hinder her draft consideration. The only Hot Corner candidate on our list, the five foot, three inch Wildcat owns a stat not often seen: more than half of her career hit total is for extra bases. A doubles “specialist,” Del Ponte collected 14 of them in 2012 to go with two triples and 15 home runs (59 total hits). She has 195 RBI’s in three years, and holds her own on defense with a .946 fielding percentage at a difficult position.
Final Projection:
Del Ponte has plenty of pop, but strikes out an average of 37 times per season. That number will need to continue to decline, as it did in 2012 with 27. If she can show the NPF a little more discipline at the plate without sacrificing her power, Del Ponte will be found at third next season in the professional ranks.
