Jessica Cooley, Senior, Outfield, Mississippi State
Throws: Right, Bats: Right
Overview:
Cooley, a College Sports Madness preseason third team All-America selection, started 49 games in left field and seven in right field in 2012 for the Bulldogs. She collected 15 home runs, hit .310 and picked up 41 RBI’s to go with 28 walks. Cooley has some speed, swiping 14 bases in 18 attempts. She was named NFCA Collegiate Player of the Week in March, hitting five round-trippers and 17 RBI’s in a six game stretch.
Final Projection:
NPF teams are always looking for a power hitting outfielder. Stats can be interpreted in many ways, but by the numbers Mississippi State was 17-3 with Cooley hitting second or eighth in the line-up, but only 16-18 with her in the power slot. This could actually work in Cooley’s favor in the draft with a drafting team getting unexpected power from a lower order hitter. Strikeouts are a concern, with Cooley fanning 41 times in 158 at bats.
