Jarvis Jones, Junior, Defensive End, Georgia
Overview:
Jarvis Jones is an elite athlete and is a perfect hybrid player due to his size, quickness, strength, and overall athleticism. Jones will have the ability to play linebacker in any scheme and could even play defensive end in a 4-3 scheme. He enjoyed an ultra-productive career at Georgia after transferring from USC. With 14.5 sacks this season and 13.5 last year, Jones has proven to be one of the best pass rushers in college football. Although the sacks are the eye popping and what puts him on the map, he is far more than just a pass rusher. He is also a great run stopper and has the speed to make plays all over the field. However his best trait may just be his relentless effort. He will not give up on plays and has an everlasting motor, which is what makes many pass rushers successful at the next level.
Final Projection:
At 6’3, 241 pounds Jones has an NFL body, which combined with his explosive attributes, makes him one of the best prospects in the upcoming class. The league is always searching for a top flight pass rusher and Jones is that and so much more. He is a sure fire top five selection. Jones has experience playing the run, rushing the passer, and playing in coverage. He has done everything that has been asked out of him and his wide skill set will turn every scout, coach, and GM’s head on every team.
4/11/2013 Update by Joel Welser:
Jones is slipping down some draft boards because of his inconsistency. He has turned into this year's boom or bust defensive end. As a result, Jones will likely slip out of the top five and move into the six to ten range. He could even see that slip continue while other pass rushers, like Ezekiel Ansah, pass him on some boards. Jones is still an athletic pass rusher with a ton of potential, so he will not drop much further than the ten spot.
