Maryland vs. Louisville Men's Soccer Quarterfinal Breakdown
#10 Louisville vs. #2 Maryland
One of three Big East teams that made it to the quarterfinals, Louisville takes on number two regular season ranked Maryland for the chance to play in the College Cup. Both Louisville and Maryland earned a bye to the second round of the NCAA tournament and sat out the first round. Louisville swept past Winthrop 5-0 and overtook Northwestern in the third round 2-1. Maryland squeaked by Brown, making the winning goal with less than a minute on the clock, but dominated Coastal Carolina in the third round. Maryland has the number one scoring offense in the league, averaging 2.55 points per game. Leading the offense is Patrick Mullins with 15 goals. But now that they are in tournament play, things change and previous stats don’t matter. Both teams have scored seven goals in the second and third rounds combined and both teams have taken 12 shots on goal making their offensive numbers match up. Louisville’s defense has faired slightly better in the previous matches only allowing one goal and recording just four saves while Maryland has let two slip by and saved six. But this won’t be the first time the Terps will have met the Cards this season. Maryland came out on top of Louisville early in the season 3-0 so Louisville will be looking to even the score while Maryland looks to repeat.
