Florida State vs. Notre Dame Women's Soccer Quarterfinal Breakdown

#1 Florida State vs. Notre Dame

Florida State put together a resounding performance in the Sweet 16 taking down Texas A&M 4-0. The Seminole’s defense was the key as they held a high-octane Aggie offense to just three shots on frame throughout the match. Offensively, Florida State had four separate goal scorers and was able to wear down Texas A&M in the second half. The Seminole’s depth was huge the whole weekend especially being able to survive Texas Tech’s best shot in a 3-2 knockdown, drag out fight against the Red Raiders in the Second Round. The key against Notre Dame is balanced offense from Tiffany McCarty and Dagny Brynjarsdottir and staying consistent in the backline like they have all season long.

Notre Dame is looking to complete the Sunshine State double in the quarterfinals as they went into Gainesville and took down the second seeded Florida Gators 2-0. The Fighting Irish have consistently gotten better as the season has gone along, which is to be expected from a team that has started as many as six or seven freshmen in 2012. Chrystal Thomas and Lauren Bohaboy have combined for 17 goals in 2012. These two will be critical against Florida State and will need to convert scoring chances if the Fighting Irish are to advance to the College Cup in San Diego. This match should be very tightly contested and low scoring as both defenses are awfully difficult to break down.
