Baylor and UConn; Women's Basketball's Clear #1 and #2
Take a trip. Read a book. Do a little more work. There is really no reason to pay attention until February 18 and then again on April 9. Those are the two times that Baylor will be playing UConn. The first one, on Big Monday in Hartford will be for No. 1 in the polls. The next one will be for all the marbles in New Orleans.
No one else can even approach these teams. Duke is listed a No. 3, but take a look at their score when UConn hosts them on January 21. It won't even be close. Baylor has the best player ever in Brittney Griner and a first team All-American point guard in Odyssey Sims. They also have one of the top coaches in the game in Kim Mulkey. They won it all last year. UConn returns virtually everyone from a team which was an overtime loss to Notre Dame away from the National Championship game. They also boast a frosh as heralded as Diana Taurasi and Maya Moore in Breanna Stewart. And coach Geno Auriemma is the best ever. They played an exhibition game against Holy Family this week and went on a 30-0 second half run.
Louisville might play them tough in the Big East. With Texas A&M gone from the Big Twelve, Baylor won't be tested much in conference…maybe not at all. UConn could beat Baylor in Hartford in February but won't be as fortunate in New Orleans. Next year may be different.
