Week 11 Missouri Valley Football Conference Breakdowns
Northern Iowa @ South Dakota, Saturday, 1:00
Northern Iowa is coming off of a blowout win against Western Illinois. This game shouldn’t be a contest either. Although South Dakota played well last weekend against Youngstown State, Northern Iowa’s offense will be too much for the Coyotes to handle. The troubling part of this South Dakota team is definitely the defense and they will have trouble matching up against Northern Iowa’s skill positions.
Projected Score: Northern Iowa 40, South Dakota 10
Youngstown State @ Western Illinois, Saturday, 2:00
It was another poor performance from the Penguins last week as they barely got past the Coyotes of South Dakota. This week Youngstown State will travel to Macomb, Illinois to take on the Leathernecks. Both of these teams have certainly had their share of struggles this season, but I have to take the Penguins in this matchup. The Leathernecks will likely have trouble stopping the run and their poor pass defense could give Kurt Hess some much-needed confidence.
Projected Score: Youngstown State 24, Western Illinois 10
#21 South Dakota State @ #1 North Dakota State, Saturday, 3:30
The biggest game of the week will be in Fargo this weekend, as the Bison and the Jackrabbits will battle it out for the Dakota Marker. This season’s Dakota Marker contest will also likely decide the Missouri Valley Conference title, assuming that these two squad go on to win their last game of the season. The key to this game will be defense. Will Austin Sumner and Zach Zenner be able to perform against this stout Bison defense? Also, will the Bison offense continue to struggle throwing like it has the past couple of weeks? This game will likely be close, but I have to go with the number #1 team at home.
Projected Score: #1 North Dakota State 31, #21 South Dakota State 17
