Jonathan Mendoza, Senior, Midfield/Forward, Stetson
Overview:
Jonathan Mendoza has worn many hats, if you will, during his career at Stetson. As a freshman he started nine games and totaled three goals and three assists. But in 2010 he went from a part-time starter to the key midfielder for the Hatters. He again scored three goals, but this time he also tallied an impressive 11 assists.
By 2011 Mendoza was asked to help pick up the scoring slack and he did just that. En route to Atlantic Sun Player of the Year accolades, the 5-6 playmaker scored 11 goals and dished out five assists.
Final Projection:
There is not much Mendoza cannot do and he should be in for a big 2012 campaign, whether it be as a goal scorer or a set-up man…or more likely both. His future is likely in the midfield where he can use his strength to be more of a defensive presence, but he does have good speed and can breakaway up front. Either way, Mendoza can score goals and that means teams will give him a long look for the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.
