Dexter Strickland, Senior, Shooting Guard, North Carolina
Overview:
With all the lottery talent and highly recruited stars, North Carolina missed Dexter Strickland last year. He went down with a serious knee injury in January of that season and from that point on, Carolina had no one to stop opposing guards. Strickland is a very good on-ball defender and was always looked at to stop an opponent’s best playmaker. If he is able to transition to point guard, this skill and his size will make him a viable NBA prospect. Of course, the problem with playing at UNC is someone else always comes along. Even though Best-PG-in-the-Country Kendall Marshall left for the NBA, incoming recruits seem likely to gain starting nods over Strickland when it comes to the point.
Final Projection:
The other knock against Strickland is his lack of shooting. He was never really relied on to shoot or score at Carolina other than as a third or fourth option on a play. So he took very few shots and scored very little. As a senior, Dexter will need to show he is fully recovered and healthy, and show the ability to score off the bounce and from distance. Teaming that with his defensive prowess is the only hope the young man has of getting drafted.
