Oklahoma 2012 Softball World Series Capsule

Oklahoma Sooners
Big 12 (45-8, 19-5)

The Sooners are led in the circle by junior pitcher Keilani Ricketts. She is 26-7 with an ERA of 1.13, which is eighth in the nation. She has also tallied 325 strikeouts; good enough for third in among NCAA Division I hurlers. At the plate, Oklahoma is led by freshman Lauren Chamberlain who is hitting .353 with 58 RBIs, which is tenth in the nation. She also ranks third in the country with 22 homeruns. Along with Ricketts and Chamberlain, junior catcher Jessica Shults is not only a wall behind the dish but has offensive power with 15 homeruns to go with her defensive prowess.

Big Wins: 3/3 vs LSU (5-0), 4/14 vs Texas A&M (5-2), 4/22 vs Missouri (2-1)
Bad Losses: 2/24 vs Stanford (5-0), 3/25 vs Baylor (1-0), 4/6 vs Texas Tech (5-4)
Coach: Patty Gasso (18 seasons at Oklahoma)

Why They Can Surprise:
Oklahoma is an all-around team that can dominate their opponents offensively. They are scoring 6.16 runs per game which is 11th in the nation and hitting 1.54 homeruns per game which is an outstanding 4th in the country. Defensively, with a battery of Ricketts and Shults the Sooners are 43rd overall with a .696 team fielding percentage.

Why They Can Disappoint:
In their most recent loss, the Sooners were devastated by the Texas Longhorns losing 12-5, which brings  up a couple questions. First, can Oklahoma reclaim their momentum? Second, can Ricketts stamina hold on throughout playoffs?
