Keenan Allen, Junior, Wide Receiver, California
Overview:
A slow finish to his sophomore season did little to sour a tremendous campaign put together by Keenan Allen. Although he finished with less than 100 yards receiving in each of the final seven games of the year, Allen was still named a Pac-12 first team representative. He finished with an impressive 1,343 yards on 98 catches. But the numbers do not tell the whole story. Scouts rave about Allen’s athleticism and quickness with such a large frame. Some have compared his moves to another former Cal wide out, DeSean Jackson, who is much smaller than Allen lists at. The strength is also there to get off the line against press coverage or battle for a ball in the air.
Final Projection:
Although not in the most prestigious offense going, especially when Cal turns to focus on the running game, Keenan Allen still has a chance to be a very high draft pick. A number of the top wide receivers entered the NFL a season ago, meaning Allen has less competition to be that number one WR off teams’ boards. The only real threat to this distinction lies in another west coast receiver, Robert Woods of USC. Even so, with another productive year showing off his vast array of skills, Keenan Allen could be a first round selection.
