Doug Martin, Senior, Running Back, Boise State
Overview:
Doug Martin is another small school running back who is drawing a lot of interest from NFL teams and scouts. He is molded similar to Ray Rice, only adding to his intrigue. The 5’9, 215 pound senior, ran for 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns a season ago, while averaging 4.9 yards per carry. Martin was a three year starter at Boise State and all three seasons were ultra-productive. Martin is a strong, powerful, agile, and fast runner with good vision as well. He also can block well and has good hands, making him even more attractive to NFL teams. Martin is a true every down back and a complete back.
Final Projection:
Martin has first round talent, but thanks to the NFL undervaluing running backs because of how pass happy the league is becoming, he very likely will be selected in the second round. The team that drafts him will get great value. He may be on the small size, according to his height, but with successful runners like Ray Rice and Maurice Jones Drew being small as well, that should not deter many teams. He is the second best running back in this class and should have a productive NFL career.
