Harrison Smith, Senior, SS, Notre Dame
Overview:
Harrison Smith has ideal NFL safety size, which is the first thing that will get your attention about him. But study his film and there is much more to him than just a great NFL body. He has good instincts, is physical and strong, and is adequate in run support. He is very good at dropping back into coverage and letting his ball skills take control of the game. He has good speed, which allows him to close on the ball fast and cover a lot of ground from the safety spot. He is also known as a very smart football player.
Final Projection:
This safety class is one of the worst in recent memory. Only Smith and Alabama safety Mark Barron are considered good prospects. Smith is not quite as talented as Barron, but is a close second. Because of that it can be difficult to slate Smith as a team who needs a safety may reach for him in round one. More likely Smith will be taken in round two, but there is little chance he remains into the third round.
