Chandler Jones, Junior, DE/OLB, Syracuse
Overview:
Chandler Jones is a player who has been flying up draft boards as of late, and for good reason. Jones is nearly 6’5 and weighs 266 pounds, making him a great fit as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 or a defensive end in a 4-3. Jones is a well trained MMA fighter and the younger brother of UFC standout, Jon Jones. It shows on his game film, as he uses his hands extremely well to get off of blocks. He was injured last season, but still managed to record 38 tackles, 4.5 sacks, force two fumbles, and even intercept a pass.
Final Projection:
Jones is a guy with first round talent. He has the potential to be one of the elite pass rushers in this class. His strength and MMA training make him difficult to block and coaches know if they can teach him some better pass rush moves he may be unstoppable. He was known for being a great run defender in college, something that will not be overlooked by scouts as many of the elite pass rushers struggle in that area. He fits better as an outside rush linebacker in a 3-4 so look for one of the many 3-4 defenses looking to get pressure to select him.
