Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State; Softball Bedlam Part 2
STILLWATER, OK – In the first Bedlam game Oklahoma State was blanked 4-0 by the Oklahoma Sooners. OSU and OU met in the second Bedlam game on Wednesday (April 11) and OSU did score a run. But it was the only run as the Cowgirls were run-ruled by the Sooners, 11-1, in five innings at Cowgirl Stadium before a crowd of 450.
OU, now 33-5 and 9-2 in the Big 12, scored in every inning and for the ninth time this season the Sooners hit at least three home runs . It was their 16th win with multiple homers and upped the Sooners’ season home run total to 61. Third baseman Javen Henson smashed two of OU’s four homers with one each in the second and fourth inning. Catcher Jessica Shults hit her 10th homer of the season in the first inning, a three-run shot, and outfielder Brittany Williams closed out the OU power show with a three-run blast in the third inning in becoming the sixth OU player with at least five home runs this season. Henson became the fifth Sooner to hit at least two homers in a game as Oklahoma has accomplished this feat 10 times this season. It also was the first time in her career that Henson had multiple homers in a game.
Lefty hurler Keilani Ricketts coasted to her 19th win this season and 77th of her career, moving into third place on the OU career victories list. She fanned eight and walked one in four innings of work. Michelle Gascoigne hurled the last inning for OU. The only hit Ricketts allowed was a single by first baseman Julie Ward.
OU, meanwhile, collected 11 hits off two Cowgirl pitchers with Kat Espinposa the loser (10-8), hurling two and one third innings and Morgan Hawkins replacing her and hurling two and two-third innings. Espinosa allowed six hits and seven runs (all earned) with Hawkins giving up four hits and four runs (all earned). OSU is now 18-16 on the season and 2-6 in the Big 12.
Henson had a perfect day for the Sooners (3-for-3), driving in four runs with Shults going two-for-four with three RBIs. Lauren Chamberlain also went two-for-four for the Sooners who now lead the Bedlam series 72-70 and have won 11 of the last 14 games in Stillwater.
