One Loss to the BCS?

After a day, and night, of some crazy football, BCS dreams have opened up for a lot of teams. With Clemson and Kansas State falling from the ranks of the unbeaten, a whole slew of one loss teams can see their opportunity to reach the national championship. Oregon, Oklahoma and Arkansas are the big winners this week among the one loss teams. The Ducks have a huge game against Stanford on their slate, but they are in the best position to jump Boise State should Oklahoma State slip up down the stretch. For Oklahoma, they take on the Cowboys in the last week of the regular season and would certainly jump ahead of Oklahoma State in the BCS rankings in that scenario. The Razorbacks have to take a trip to LSU and that could make things very interesting.

Of course, the winner of the LSU and Alabama game this week will be penciled into the BCS National Championship game. The loser will also be right there with the likes of Oregon, Oklahoma and Arkansas among the best of the one loss squads. If Alabama or LSU win in a blowout, that may keep the loser out of the BCS National Championship picture. But a blowout in that game is not likely. But even with all the hope that is now there for some of the one loss teams, College Sports Madness is still projecting Stanford to join Alabama in the championship game in the latest Bowl Projections. Oklahoma State’s defense is looking good and maybe they can stop Oklahoma enough, but Stanford got past a tough road game at USC and have just one road game left…at Oregon State this week. After that the Cardinal get Oregon, California and Notre Dame at home. And, for the first time, Stanford would have to win the Pac-12 Conference Championship game, but that game would seem relatively easy after USC, Oregon and Notre Dame.
