First Four Out: SMU, Miami, South Carolina, Mississippi
The last spot in the playoffs is the only spot where the selection committee could surprise us during the selection show. There’s no reason to believe Miami or Ole Miss or South Carolina will jump around of Alabama though. The only hope for those who do not want to see the Crimson Tide in the playoffs is that SMU will not slide down too far and stay ahead of Alabama. The Mustangs do have a better resume than fellow 2-loss Miami, and deserve some credit for reaching the ACC Championship, but that may not be enough for the committee.
