First Eight Out: BYU, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Houston, Arizona State, LSU, Fordham, Oregon State
The SEC is hoping to get eight or nine teams into the NCAA Tournament. Most are safe at this point, with South Carolina, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Georgia, Arkansas and Tennessee boasting RPIs in the top 25. After that it gets a little more complicated. Mississippi State has a solid RPI, but are only 8-6 and 3-5 in conference play. The Bulldogs just need to get some wins and with only one game against those top six teams left on the schedule, they are in a position to do just that and make the tournament. Alabama has a solid 13-6 record, but have yet to get a season defining victory. Still, if the Crimson Tide continue to beat the teams they should beat, a 15-8 SEC team should get into the NCAAs. LSU, at 8-10 and 6-6, has a lot of work to do. They lost both their games this week to Florida and South Carolina. The Tigers have a solid RPI, but those early season losses to teams like BYU and Pacific are coming back to haunt them.
