Auburn's Life After Cam
Life after Cam: this is what Auburn Tigers’ fans have to look forward to. Sure, the constant cheating accusations will go away but so will the sleek, effortless power and the unstoppable force of nature that was unleashed on the nation. Reminiscent of the Florida Gators after Tebow, the Texas Longhorns after Young or the Tennessee Volunteers after Manning, Auburn will have some precedents to study, but the results are all over the board.
Somehow, the University of Tennessee did indeed win the National Championship the year after Manning but they actually never won the whole thing WITH Manning. Gator life after Tebow is a better comparison. Florida was the powerhouse and title winner with Tebow under center. The year after, they struggled to find a replacement, struggled to crawl out from under his shadow. A similar scenario seems likely in Auburn in 2011.
With the quarterback position turning a new leaf, much of the offensive consistency will fall on the shoulders of sophomore running back Michael Dyer. He was tremendous as a freshman, especially as the season wound down but he and his teammates will have a hard time traversing their SEC schedule without Cam under center.
The outcome remains to be seen but it is safe to say Tigers faithful would be happiest if the name Barrett Trotter was placed right next to Tee Martin in football lore.
