Air Force Takes Home the CIC
Navy has dominated the Commander-in-Chief trophy recently, but Air Force put an end to that during the 2010 campaign. The Falcons topped Navy by a score of 14-6 and outscored Army 42-22 to win the coveted trophy for the first time since 2002.
That capped off a great season for Air Force who finished with a 9-4 record and beat Georgia Tech in the Independence Bowl. The Falcons will look to defend their trophy in 2011 with another solid team returning, but for a while they got to enjoy the Commander-in-Chief trophy. On April 18th, the Air Force seniors headed to the White House to formally accept the trophy on behalf of President Barack Obama. First awarded in 1972 by President Richard Nixon, the Commander-in-Chief trophy has been a staple of college football ever since. Air Force often gets overlooked in the process as the Army versus Navy game garners so much attention at the end of the season, but this year it was all about Air Force and do not be surprised if the case is the same in 2011.
Like most things in life, the ceremony for the CIC with President Obama can be seen here on YouTube.
