First Four Out: Mississippi State, Penn State, Hofstra, Boston College

It was an eventful weekend out in Palm Springs at the Mary Nutter Classic as several teams had some interesting results. Texas A&M loaded up their tournament resume by sweeping their trip out to California as they hung the first loss of the season on Florida State. The Seminoles got some solid results as well despite the Texas A&M loss. The Seminoles knocked off a very good UCLA team that will contend all year long in the Pac-12 conference. Utah broke through with a pair of wins over SEC foes LSU and Tennessee, but their offense let them down in losses to San Diego State and Cal State Fullerton. The plight of the Utes sums up nicely where the early part of the college softball is at right now. If you are just a little bit off of your game on any given day, you are going to get beat. James Madison continues its ascent as a rising power in college softball as they picked up another signature win over Auburn, beating the Tigers 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in an outstanding pitcher’s duel. Megan Good went the distance limiting Auburn to just one hit.
