Connecticut continued to show why it’s the team to beat until proven otherwise by the rest of women’s college basketball world. They went to South Bend last Wednesday and beat the Fighting Irish 72-61. Naphessa Collier led the way with 20 points and it was the third quarter that proved to be the difference as the Huskies limited Notre Dame to just nine points. So, while the gap has been closed as far as margin of victory by the elite teams of women’s college basketball against Connecticut, the bottom line is the Huskies still have plenty of talent and more importantly know how to win. The Pac-12 is also flexing its muscle once again this season as UCLA had no problem with Michigan on Sunday and Kelsey Plum of Washington set the all-time scoring record in the Pac-12 as the Huskies rolled to a 92-66 win over Boise State on Sunday. Colorado has maintained its undefeated record as the Buffaloes dispatched of Colorado State 74-56. Bottom line, the winner of the Pac-12 this season could very well have four or five conference losses as the league is going to be that deep and competitive all season long.
