First Four Out: North Carolina, California, Virginia Tech, Purdue

Thanks to some electric pitching along with their usual offensive efficiency, Florida swept Louisiana in a battle of top five teams in Gainesville this weekend. The pitching staff as a whole, including some brilliant relief pitching from Delanie Gourley, limited the Ragin’ Cajuns to just two runs all weekend long. This sweep of Louisiana was the first sweep of a top five ranked non-conference team in program history. Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky all picked up crucial road series wins to shake up the SEC race coming down the stretch. Washington is starting to get it going the circle as they were very effective in the first two games at slowing down the California bats. If they can continue to get some steady pitching, the Huskies they will become a huge threat to get to Oklahoma City. Oklahoma and Minnesota are a couple more teams that continue to surge forward and get better. The Sooners, with their sweep of Texas, are now in complete control of the Big 12 and are on the verge of getting up to a top eight national seed. Minnesota, after its sweep of Rutgers, has enough firepower to be able to test Michigan later on this season.
